Richard Posted: 2001-09-23 05:57:02 Memory Hole Base memory addresses between 15 and 16 MB can be reserved for specific legacy ISA cards that won't run otherwise. In some cases, SB-life audio cards like to grab these base memory addresses and cause conflicts. By enabling the memory hole in your BIOS, the base addresses can be pushed further down to avoid address overlap. Most mainboards have an option to enable a 15-16 MB memory hole to enable faster ISA performance with older hardware devices. For some reson, this prompts Windows 2000 to reboot the computer for no apparent reason. THE FIX: go into your BIOS's CMOS Setup and disable the "Memory Hole". All mobo brands are different. AWARD BIOSes have this setting located under the "Chipset Features Setup" or "Advanced Chipset Features" menu." |
